Employees help maintain their well-being at work by proactively shaping aspects of their job, a phenomenon known as job crafting. Given ongoing concerns about the well-being of researchers-in-training, we are using Wrzesniewski and Dutton’s model of job crafting to characterize job crafting in research training. We are also characterizing whether and how PhD students proactively shape their research experience and graduate education, and how this is associated with their wellbeing.
